Ryanair CEO Warns Delivery of Boeing Planes May Be Delayed Due to Tariffs
Michael O'Leary, the boss of Ryanair, warned that Europe's largest budget airline might delay deliveries if the price of Boeing planes increases. This would spark a dispute between manufacturers and airlines over who will bear the cost of Donald Trump's trade war.
"If these planes are subject to tariffs, we are likely to delay deliveries," O'Leary told the Financial Times. Ryanair had planned to receive an additional 25 aircraft from Boeing by August, but won't need them until "around March or April 2026." He added, "We may delay deliveries, hoping reason will prevail."
His remarks indicate that President Donald Trump's tariff measures have impacted the aerospace industry, putting billions of dollars in aircraft deliveries at risk and exerting pressure on supply chains.
In addition to the 18-month tariffs imposed due to disputes over subsidies to Boeing and Airbus, the aerospace industry has been largely free of trade barriers since 1979. Therefore, this uncertainty over tariffs is unprecedented for the aerospace industry.
