American Ambassador: Mexico Can Be Proud of Law Enforcement's Operation to Capture the Leader of a Drug Cartel
American Ambassador to Mexico, Ron Johnson, stated that the Mexican people can be proud of the actions of their security forces in the operation to capture the leader of a drug cartel and pointed out that Washington will continue to support Mexico.
Johnson wrote on social media platform X: "I respect the courage and decisive actions taken by the Mexican government before, during, and after the operation against the 'CJNG' drug cartel. This is a heavy blow to one of the most brutal criminal organizations that threaten our people. The Mexican people should be proud of the determination shown by their security forces."
He also called for continuing with the same determination to combat drug cartels.
The ambassador concluded: "Criminals will be punished, and justice will prevail. The United States, as a sovereign partner, firmly supports Mexico."
The Mexican Ministry of Defense announced on February 22 an operation to arrest Rubén Oseguera González, known as "El Mencho," the leader of the "CJNG" drug cartel. He died from his injuries while being transported to Mexico City. Subsequently, dozens of cities and towns experienced car fires, road blockades, and attacks on law enforcement officers.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the United States provided intelligence to the Mexican Ministry of Defense for the operation to capture El Mencho, and then President Donald Trump also urged Mexico to increase efforts against drug cartels and drug-related crimes.
