According to a report by Reuters on June 20 local time, a source from Stellantis said that the consulting company McKinsey is recommending Stellantis sell Maserati in order to restructure its brand matrix.
The information about selling Maserati was reported by foreign media when Carlos Tavares, the former CEO of Stellantis, was in office, but Carlos Tavares firmly denied it and claimed he would not give up any brands under the group.
In 2024, Maserati sold a total of 11,000 cars, a year-on-year decline of more than 50%. The brand's adjusted operating loss last year was 260 million euros (approximately 2.14 billion yuan RMB).

Moreover, Maserati still has no plans for new product releases. Santo Ficili, CEO of Maserati, said earlier this month that the new plan will be announced shortly after Antonio Filosa, the new CEO of the group, takes office.
To many investors, Maserati has become a liability for the group. A source said that Stellantis has realized the reality of having too many brands under its umbrella, making it difficult to invest appropriately in all brands.
Some investors and analysts said that streamlining the portfolio would increase Stellantis' profit margins. Since last March, Stellantis' stock price has fallen by two-thirds.
In early April this year, Stellantis hired McKinsey and expected the latter to provide consultation on the impact of US tariffs on Maserati and Alfa Romeo.
Although Stellantis reiterated its full support for the development of these two brands at the beginning of Filosa's tenure, sources said that one of the options provided by McKinsey for Stellantis is to divest Maserati, adding that McKinsey's assessment is still in its early stages.
However, sources said that there are divisions within the Stellantis board regarding the future planning of Maserati. Some board members believe that Stellantis cannot sustainably revive Maserati and suggest that selling Maserati is the best choice; others think that Maserati still holds value and that selling its only luxury brand would cause significant damage to Stellantis' reputation.
