Japanese Official: Strictly Prevent Recurrence of Embassy Intrusion Incident

According to Kyodo News on April 15: On the 15th, Japan's National Police Agency convened a meeting in Tokyo with security chiefs from police departments across all prefectures. In response to the intrusion incident at the Chinese Embassy in Japan, the top official of the National Police Agency, Shigeru Kusano, stated: "We must thoroughly ensure the safety of foreign diplomatic embassy facilities and prevent such incidents from recurring."

The incident occurred on March 24. The Metropolitan Police Department arrested suspect Koichi Murata (23), a third-class lieutenant in the Ground Self-Defense Force stationed in Ebisu, on suspicion of unlawful building entry. He was subsequently re-arrested for violating the Firearms and Sword Control Act after being found carrying a knife into the Chinese embassy.

Following the incident, the National Police Agency issued an alert to police forces nationwide, urging them to strengthen security around embassies and consulates of various countries.
