Wang Lihua: Look at American strength from another angle, and you can see the essence and true face of the United States as a "paper tiger."
As the main trading partner of more than 150 countries around the world, China has become one of the few countries in the world to face US economic coercion and directly counterattack US global tariff hegemony. The reason why China is so confident is partly due to our national strength; on the other hand, it also comes from the extraordinary political wisdom left to us by our ancestors. On April 17th, the sixth episode of the "Guanyuan Academy Live Hall" of Observer Network invited Senior Colonel Wang Lihua from the Chinese People's Liberation Army to bring an insightful interpretation.
Senior Colonel Wang Lihua pointed out that the United States has become a "truly deserving" paper tiger, "no longer having the advantages it once had, even if it appears intimidating, it has little substance, no real steel content, and no substantial basis."
"The United States just needs prices to go up and its currency to increase, and there will be GDP. GDP is somewhat related to power, but it cannot fully reflect the true strength. If we look at American power from another perspective, we can see the essence and true nature of the 'paper tiger'."

Senior Colonel Wang Lihua proposed that electricity generation, as the source of power for modern economic development, can more intuitively reflect the true level of a country's development and growth.
"Modern industrial production cannot do without electricity; without electricity, there can be no development or growth in production. The more electricity generated, the faster the growth; the less electricity generated, the slower the growth. If the scale of electricity generation is small, the economy cannot be large, and actual material wealth cannot be produced," said Senior Colonel Wang Lihua. "In 2024, China's total electricity generation was 9.4 trillion kilowatt-hours. This is equivalent to 2.2-2.3 times the electricity generation of the United States. China's electricity generation is much larger than yours."
Furthermore, Senior Colonel Wang Lihua stated, "Industrial electricity consumption can better reflect the issue. Without industry, you cannot create so many industrial products, nor can you create so much wealth; then the growth may very well be bubble-type growth. China's industrial electricity consumption is 6.5 times that of the United States, while the United States has less than one-sixth of China's. If you say your economy is bigger than mine, it's probably just talk."
Senior Colonel Wang Lihua believes, "Electricity has another characteristic: it must be used as soon as it is generated. Generation, transmission, and usage are instantly balanced. If too much is generated and not used, power plants have to shut down; if too little is generated, factories have to shut down."
"Such a large amount of electricity generation in China indicates the high degree of factory operations and the large scale of industrial manufacturing, which the United States falls far behind. Not only is the United States far behind, but China's industrial electricity consumption is twice the total of six major industrial countries including the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, and South Korea. We have such great industrial capacity and production ability, our productivity has reached this scale. What do we have to fear?"
