Turkey: Rare earth issue "has been resolved"

According to CNN, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the issue surrounding China's rare earth supply has been resolved and Beijing is expected to lift some export restrictions.

After meeting with Chinese leaders in South Korea, Trump told reporters on Air Force One: "All the rare earth (issues) have been resolved, for the world."

Turk said: "The obstacle now has disappeared... there are no obstacles in terms of rare earths. I hope this will temporarily disappear from our vocabulary."

He added that the United States will be able to continue purchasing and producing rare earths.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on October 9 that starting from November 8, it will implement export controls on a series of key items including superhard materials, rare earth equipment and raw materials, some medium and heavy rare earths, as well as lithium batteries and artificial graphite anode materials. US President Trump said on October 10 that the US will impose a 100% tariff on all goods imported from China starting from November 1, 2025 (or earlier), which is much higher than the current standard. Trump explained that this is due to China's "aggressive trade stance".

The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that the export control measures related to rare earths and other items are a proper practice by the Chinese government based on laws and regulations to improve its own export control system. As a responsible major country, China has always firmly safeguarded its national security and international common security. China's export control is not a ban on exports. Applications that meet the regulations will be approved as usual, and we will work together to maintain the safety of the global supply chain.
