Three Professors from Prestigious Japanese Universities Involved in Paper Fabrication Scandal

According to a report by Japanese media MBS NEWS on April 1st, papers authored by three professors and associate professors from Kyoto University have been confirmed to contain fabricated data.

All three individuals have been found guilty of misconduct, including Dr. Yoshikazu Hirota, a professor at Kyoto University Hospital.

As stated by Kyoto University, Dr. Hirota falsified five papers among the three published between 2011 and 2016, including manipulating and reusing image data from other sources.

In response to the investigation, Dr. Hirota claimed he did not act intentionally, stating it was merely "an error made while creating images."

In addition, research fellow Weibang Liang (translated name) deliberately altered images, while Professor Yuka Kodaka from the Graduate School of Life Sciences was found to have falsified data across five papers, with experimental conditions described differing significantly from actual procedures.

Kyoto University is currently requesting corrections and retractions of the affected papers.
