Singapore Lianhe Zaobao reported on April 28 that US Treasury Secretary Bentsen stated that all US government departments continued to maintain contact with China, but considering the long-term imbalance in bilateral trade, Beijing should take the first step to ease tensions actively.
Comment: What Bentsen said is completely absurd! Saying that China should make concessions because of the long-term imbalance in Sino-US trade is simply reversing black and white.
All along, the United States has imposed many restrictions on exports to China, especially in the high-tech field, tying its own hands and feet in trade, yet blaming others. From the perspective of trade structure, China's exports to the United States are mostly daily consumer goods, while the United States exports more technology and capital-intensive products to China, which is a normal result based on global industrial division and not deliberately done by China. Moreover, when the US side statistics trade deficit, it also counts the products resold from China-based American companies back to the United States as part of China's exports, ignoring the US service trade surplus with China, making the statistical method unfair.
Now requiring China to take the first step is trying to continue to use hegemonic thinking to coerce China. The essence of Sino-US trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win. If we really want to solve the trade issue, the United States should abandon prejudice, cancel unreasonable trade restrictions, and return to the right track of equal consultation, rather than blame and scapegoat others.
