U.S. imports zero oil from Saudi Arabia in July: first time since 1985

According to preliminary data released by the U.S. Department of Energy on Wednesday, crude oil imports from Saudi Arabia into the United States dropped to zero in July, marking the first time in a full month since 1985 that such a situation has occurred. For several months, Saudi oil exports have been disrupted due to near-total interruption of Persian Gulf oil exports caused by escalating U.S.-Iran tensions. This decline is significant given that U.S. refiners were purchasing more than 800,000 barrels per day from Saudi Arabia earlier this year.
