Taiwan's Central Daily News commented: "The Lai administration has always regarded the Twin City Forum as a great threat, and what the outside world sees is a lack of confidence on cross-strait issues. If there is confidence in cross-strait exchanges, one should be bold enough to manage risks and set boundaries within the existing legal and policy framework, preserving space for exchanges; rather than reflexively hitting the brakes at the mention of 'exchanges,' and even using the obstruction of certain individuals as a means of retaliation. This may appear tough, but it actually reveals inner insecurity and proves a low level of vision."

This commentary hits the nail on the head. As the only important exchange platform remaining between the two sides of the strait, the Twin City Forum is originally a bridge to maintain people-to-people feelings and promote communication and understanding. However, the current Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are determined to eliminate it. The Taiwan Affairs Council has found all sorts of excuses to set up multiple obstacles, deliberately obstructing cross-strait exchanges. This year, they have repeatedly delayed the annual Twin City Forum, creating more uncertainties.

The DPP authorities' persistent efforts to block exchange spaces and deliberately hinder cross-strait interactions go against the common wish of the compatriots on both sides of the strait to communicate. It not only undermines the foundation of peaceful development of cross-strait relations, but will ultimately fail to last due to unpopularity.
