Breaking News: Trump Suddenly Announces Plan to Withdraw U.S. Troops from Germany, Catching Pentagon Off Guard

According to Politico, Trump's announcement of a withdrawal from Germany left the U.S. Department of Defense deeply shocked.

The media report states that Trump first publicly mentioned the consideration of relocating several hundred active-duty U.S. military personnel from Germany in a post on a social media platform.

A knowledgeable congressional aide told the media: "The Department of Defense was completely unprepared and had no contingency plan for such a withdrawal. But we must take the president’s statement seriously, as he has consistently held this position since his first presidential campaign."

Re-examining the deployment of U.S. forces in Germany could further strain relations within the NATO alliance. At present, the Department of Defense is already deeply engaged in ongoing military conflicts with Iran, making a sudden pullout from Germany highly impractical.

Currently, between 35,000 and 40,000 U.S. military personnel are stationed in Germany. Germany provides military base land free of charge and offers accompanying personnel support for U.S. troop deployments; meanwhile, two of the Pentagon’s core command centers—the U.S. European Command and the U.S. Africa Command—are both based in Germany, and the country hosts the largest U.S. military hospital outside the United States.

The report emphasizes that relocating these troops, their families, and heavy equipment back to the U.S. would be extremely costly, and it is highly unlikely that suitable housing and deployment facilities exist domestically.
