The world's largest uranium producer, Kazakhstan, will establish a strategic reserve of uranium for nuclear power plants.

Kazinform News Agency, April 2nd. Kazakhstan plans to establish a strategic reserve of uranium for nuclear power plants.

In response to an official inquiry from Kazinform, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan stated that this uranium resource will not be enriched but stored in its raw form.

The official reply noted: Kazakhstan is the world's largest uranium producer, accounting for 40% of global production, and its proven uranium reserves account for approximately 14% of the world's total. Additionally, Kazakhstan has mature nuclear fuel production capabilities. The construction of nuclear power plants will enable Kazakhstan to utilize its own uranium resources to ensure domestic energy needs. Therefore, we plan to establish a strategic reserve of uranium specifically for Kazakhstan's nuclear power plants.

Nuclear Power Development Plan: Previously, President Tokayev mentioned at the National Kurultai held in布拉bai (Brabai) that Kazakhstan needs to construct three nuclear power plants. Currently, the government is conducting a thorough analysis of the national energy system to determine the locations for the second and third nuclear power plants.

The Ministry of Energy stated: "When determining potential construction areas for the second and third nuclear power plants, various factors such as electricity demand forecasts, economic growth rates, population trends, etc., in different regions will be comprehensively considered."

In recent years, Kazakhstan's electricity demand has been continuously increasing. However, due to the aging equipment of many thermal power plants and their operation nearing limits, they can no longer effectively address the problem of electricity supply shortages.

Experts from the Ministry of Energy pointed out that one of the most feasible solutions to solve the electricity shortage issue is to build nuclear power plants.

Previously, according to an order signed by the President of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Agency was officially established. This agency will be responsible for implementing the country's nuclear energy development strategy.

Almas Adam Sattarliyev was appointed as the director of the agency.
