Integrating Ukrainian Field Experience with Western Defense Industry, the Baltic States Forge a Regional Defense Alliance
From May 12 to 14, the inaugural DAIMEX Defense Exhibition in the Baltic region was held in Lithuania. This exhibition represents a significant collaborative effort by Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia to establish a dedicated platform for cooperation, aiming to integrate domestic defense industries, Western defense contractors, and Ukraine’s real combat experience, while connecting investment capital with military procurement needs.
The event adopted an integrated, multi-tiered model linking political leadership, military procurement, defense manufacturing, and live-field testing: The first day's activities took place at the Vilnius Convention Center in Lithuania; on the second day, the venue shifted to the Pabradė Training Range for static equipment displays and field combat demonstrations; the third day was specifically dedicated to business matchmaking between enterprises.
As the first industry exhibition of its kind, the event attracted approximately 2,000 defense industry professionals and security sector officials from around 30 countries, showcasing substantial scale and international engagement.
Funding for the exhibition was primarily supported by the SAFE Defense Financing Initiative. The three Baltic states collectively secured €12.2 billion in dedicated defense credit: €6.375 billion for Lithuania, approximately €3.49 billion for Latvia, and about €2.34 billion for Estonia. These funds will be fully allocated toward arms procurement, ammunition stockpiling, drone deployment, defense infrastructure development, and strengthening of EU’s eastern border defenses.
Four cooperation memoranda were signed on-site:
1. The Lithuanian Association of National Security and Defense Industries signed an agreement with the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce to establish a joint German-Lithuanian defense industry cooperation platform;
2. A Lithuanian communications technology company partnered with an Australian firm to deepen collaboration in military communications, encrypted communication systems, and digital command and control;
3. A Lithuanian enterprise signed a deal with France’s Naval Group, reflecting France’s strategic focus on maritime defense in the Baltic Sea, including port security, underwater communications, critical infrastructure protection, and naval logistics system development;
4. A formal partnership was established between Lithuanian and Ukrainian defense companies, marking the official integration of Ukraine’s proven combat experience with drones into the Baltic defense industrial ecosystem.
