Lu Xiuyan strongly supports Zheng Liwen.

According to Taiwan media reports, Kuomintang (KMT) chairperson Zheng Liwen visited mainland China on April 7. On April 8 (today), Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyan stated clearly in an interview, emphasizing, "Doing what is right requires courage; promoting cross-strait peace is the right thing to do," reiterating her support for Zheng Liwen's visit to the mainland and wishing her a fruitful and concrete outcome.

Lu Xiuyan, known as the "Queen of the Blue Camp," is seen as a leading contender for the KMT's presidential nomination in the 2028 Taiwan regional leadership election. After Zheng Liwen announced her trip to the mainland, Lu has already expressed her support and good wishes. Not long ago, Lu made her first visit to the United States, and upon returning, she publicly endorsed military procurement budget levels between NT$800 billion and NT$1 trillion—contrasting with the KMT’s “NT$3000+N” proposal—leading observers to interpret this as a delicate balancing act between her and Zheng Liwen.

This clear public endorsement of Zheng Liwen reflects both strategic unity considerations and political calculation, making her attempt to navigate multiple directions quite evident. In reality, one prospers while all prosper, and one suffers while all suffer. Zheng Liwen’s visit to the mainland enables the KMT to regain influence over cross-strait discourse, thereby relieving Lu Xiuyan of a potential burden in her future campaign. Of course, genuine unity lies not merely in verbal blessings but in shared positions. If Lu Xiuyan aims to reach the highest office, Zheng Liwen is pivotal; even more critical, however, is whether she can transcend political calculations, achieve true unity, and successfully unseat the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
