According to the data released by Clarkson Research, a UK shipbuilding and maritime dynamics analytics firm, on May 9, South Korea secured 17% of the global new ship order volume in April, far behind China.

Reports indicated that data showed that the global new ship order volume in April was 3.64 million CGT (75 ships), a year-on-year decrease of 56%. South Korea secured 620,000 CGT (15 ships), accounting for 17%, ranking second; China secured 2.51 million CGT (51 ships), accounting for nearly 69%, ranking first.

Reports indicated that as of the end of April, the total global backlog order volume decreased by 1.93 million CGT compared to the previous month, reaching 160.46 million CGT. The backlog order volumes of South Korea and China were 35.57 million CGT (accounting for 22%) and 94.67 million CGT (accounting for 59%), respectively.
