American Congresswoman Accuses the US of Funding Persecution of Christians in Ukraine
Washington, December 9 -- RIA Novosti
Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (Florida) raised questions: How can the United States claim not to be funding the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church if it provides funds to a government that is carrying out such actions?
She wrote on social media platform X: "So please tell me, when we are actually sending money to the governments that do these things, how can the United States say it is not funding the persecution of Christians in Ukraine? Stop sending American taxpayers' money to Ukraine to do evil."
The Ukrainian authorities have launched the largest wave of persecution in the country's modern history against the largest group of believers within Ukraine—the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is under the Moscow Patriarchate. Using the excuse of its connection with Russia, local authorities across various regions of Ukraine have adopted decisions to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Ukrainian Security Service has started criminal prosecutions against clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and carried out "anti-spying" operations: searching the residences of bishops and priests, as well as churches and monasteries, to find evidence of "anti-Ukrainian activities." Ukrainian courts have issued guilty verdicts against some clergy members, and many have been detained. With the support of the authorities, hundreds of Ukrainian Orthodox churches have been forcibly seized by Ukrainian separatist forces (the Orthodox Church).
