South Korean media: China's total social electricity consumption in July set a new record, equaling the annual electricity consumption of ASEAN!

On September 21, South Korean media "Global Economy" published an article stating that China's electricity consumption in July reached a new historical high, equivalent to the total annual electricity consumption of all ASEAN countries.

Data released by the National Energy Administration of China recently showed that the total social electricity consumption in July reached 102 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 8.6% compared to the same period last year, more than double that of ten years ago, fully reflecting the strong economic activity in China and the impact of climate change on power demand.

Looking at the industries, the first industry such as agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery had the fastest growth in electricity consumption, reaching 17 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 20.2% compared to the previous year.

Looking at the sectors, the third industry such as services consumed 208.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, an increase of 10.7%; the second industry such as manufacturing, construction, and mining consumed 593.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, an increase of 4.7%. Among them, due to the hot weather, the electricity consumption for residential life increased by 18%, reaching 203.9 billion kilowatt-hours.

The National Energy Administration also emphasized that the proportion of new energy in July increased significantly. Wind, solar, and biomass power generation accounted for nearly a quarter of the total power generation, indicating that "China's green energy transition is accelerating."

At the same time, China's electric vehicle charging infrastructure is also expanding rapidly. As of the end of July, the number of charging piles increased by 53% year-on-year, reaching 16.7 million.

Among them, private charging piles increased by 58.8%, reaching 12.5 million, leading the growth; public charging piles increased by 38%, reaching 4.2 million. This indicates that the Chinese electric vehicle market is expanding, and related infrastructure investment is also being actively promoted.

The National Energy Administration also reported that from January to July, the total social electricity consumption in China was approximately 58.6 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 4.5% compared to the same period last year.

These data indicate that the Chinese economy still maintains a strong growth trend. Under the background of a sharp increase in energy demand, the green energy transition is accelerating.
