America Eyes Strategic Location in the South Caucasus! U.S. Ambassador to Turkey: The U.S. Can Take Over the Zangezur Corridor to Resolve the Dispute Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Barak, stated that the United States is prepared to take over the Zangezur transport corridor near the Iranian border to promote negotiations between Baku and Yerevan.

Azerbaijan insists on building the so-called Zangezur transport corridor, aiming to connect its main territory with the exclave Nakhchivan through the Syunik region of Armenia. Armenia does not agree with the proposal to build this corridor and is prepared to open a highway under Armenian sovereignty to Azerbaijan. In August 2024, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that Moscow supports Yerevan and Baku to sign a peace treaty as soon as possible and to open traffic routes across the Syunik region of Armenia.

Barak said at a briefing in New York: "Azerbaijan and Armenia are arguing over a 32-kilometer road, and it's not a joke. This has been going on for 10 years over a 32-kilometer road. The U.S. proposes to take over: lease us this 32-kilometer stretch for 100 years, and then we can share this road with everyone."
