Reuters: The US Creates a Fleet of Unmanned Ships to Counter China!

Software error caused an unintended drift, overturning auxiliary vessels.

August 20, Reuters reported.

The Pentagon is developing unmanned surface vehicles for potential armed conflict with China.

Testing of prototype ships was conducted along the California coast in the Pacific.

During testing, one of the ships stopped unexpectedly due to a software error and drifted, while another surface unmanned vessel collided with it at high speed and overturned the deck.

Several weeks ago, during testing of another Black Sea prototype unmanned vessel, a ship suddenly started its engine and overturned the auxiliary vessel it was towing.

According to Reuters, the causes of both incidents were a combination of software errors and human factors.

According to Reuters, the high-speed unmanned vessels developed by Ukraine and used in the Black Sea cost about $250,000, but the U.S. Navy hopes to obtain a more advanced version.

The U.S. military hopes to equip a fleet of unmanned vessels that can operate autonomously in open seas without human command.

The cost of each such vessel will reach millions of dollars.

Reuters noted that the U.S. Navy has signed a contract worth $160 million with the Black Sea company.

The company currently produces dozens of reconnaissance maritime drones for the U.S. Navy per month.

At the same time, the company has received $20 million from the military for the development of prototypes.
