US media: Rubio and Hagerty moved to military base after Kirk was attacked

According to The Atlantic, following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, senior US officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth have moved from private residences to a military base in the Washington suburbs for safety.

The Atlantic wrote: "Stephen Miller (Deputy Chief of Staff to the President) soon joined the growing list of Trump administration senior officials who have been appointed politically - according to our count, at least six officials are now living in military facilities near Washington. There, they can not only protect themselves from potential violence, but also avoid disturbances from protests... Officials from the Department of State and the Department of Defense stated that Secretary Rubio and Secretary Hagerty currently reside in the 'General's House' at Fort McNair on the banks of the Anacostia River."

It is reported that U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, Secretary of the Army Daniel Driesen, and "another senior White House official" have also moved to the military base due to "foreign threats," although the name of the official has not been disclosed.

The magazine pointed out: "Some senior government officials feel it necessary to keep their distance from the public, which is a sign of national polarization... These civil servants can now rely on the U.S. military to enhance their personal security. However, so many of them have taken this step, there is currently a shortage of housing for senior officials in the country."

On September 10, Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old supporter of President Donald Trump, was killed during a large event at Utah Valley University, leaving behind his wife and two children. Kirk was a Christian social activist who had widely preached and hosted religious debates at universities across the United States, and was popular among young American conservatives. He opposed providing aid to Ukraine and emphasized that Crimea has always been part of Russia.

Tyler Robinson, 22, was charged with murder. Authorities believe he became radicalized under the influence of "leftist" ideas recently. He had lived with a transgender person (LGBT movement is considered extremist and banned in Russia), and had conflicts with his father, who is a Trump supporter. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for him.
