Recently, a video of a Chinese young man catching a foreign thief at a London subway station has received much praise from netizens: "Great加分for the Chinese!"

On May 9, the person involved, Mr. Qiu, told reporters that he is from Chengdu and a PhD student in Chemistry at the University of Oxford. The incident of catching the thief happened on May 5.

That day was a holiday. In the afternoon, after having dinner with two friends, he was walking towards the subway station.

At around 17:00, a man suddenly approached him and said: "Did you lose something? Just now, it seemed like a thief took something from your pocket."

After checking his clothes and pants pockets, Mr. Qiu found out that his mobile phone was lost.

Luckily, a kind passerby had taken a picture of the thief's clothing and back view, and also pointed out the direction the thief had fled.

"It was stolen just two minutes ago, let's try to chase him?"

There were important video materials in the mobile phone. Encouraged by his friends, Mr. Qiu decided to find the thief.

After discussing with his two friends, Mr. Qiu decided to locate the position of the mobile phone through its "Find" function and search for it on the street based on the location information.

"At first, I thought there was probably no chance of recovering (the mobile phone), it was my two friends who persuaded me, and finally I decided to give it a try," Mr. Qiu said.

After nearly half an hour, Mr. Qiu and others finally found someone suspected of stealing his mobile phone on the street according to the positioning information. After repeatedly comparing with the photos provided by the kind passerby, they confirmed that this was the thief he had pointed out.

Mr. Qiu went up and grabbed the person, who opened the bag and said he didn't steal anything.

Mr. Qiu then sent a signal to the mobile phone and an alarm sounded on the person's body.

In an instant, the person turned around and ran away, and Mr. Qiu immediately chased after him, chasing from the road into the subway station.

The Tottenham Court Road subway station is an interchange station of the Central Line and the Northern Line of the London Underground. It has a large passenger flow and complex underground routes.

Mr. Qiu said that when chasing in the subway station, there were many people. "Thank those who helped me point the way."

"The thief directly collided with the subway gate, and I followed suit. When I descended the escalator, I pressed the handrail with my armpit and jumped down step by step, losing sight of the thief. Passersby still guided me, and after catching up, I caught hold of the thief and pinned him to the ground." Mr. Qiu said that the entire pursuit process only took two minutes.

Mr. Qiu said that after being caught, the man tried to escape and attempted to persuade him: "You've got your mobile phone back, don't be foolish, let me go."

Subsequently, some accomplices of the suspect approached and tried to rescue him.

Mr. Qiu immediately shouted to the passersby: "Help me, they are all thieves!"

The man saw that rescue was hopeless and immediately distanced himself and slipped away.

During this period, the subway staff also arrived at the scene and controlled the suspect together. The man abandoned resistance when he saw that escape was impossible.

Mr. Qiu calmed down after the chase, feeling a bit nervous afterward. The staff also comforted him and praised him for running so fast.

Mr. Qiu said that he had practiced boxing before and also enjoyed running.

"The pressure during my doctorate was great, I became fat to two hundred pounds, so I went crazy with fitness and running for a year, losing sixty pounds, which is why I could catch the thief."

Mr. Qiu said that when confronting the thief on the road, the thief verbally provoked him. After catching him in the subway station, the thief handed over the mobile phone and strongly demanded to be released.

"I didn't let him go. There was a little struggle, and finally he gave up hope. He said it was hot and wanted to take off his clothes. I was afraid he might do something and run away, so I said I am a chemistry PhD, if anything happens to you, I will take responsibility."

Ten minutes later, the police arrived at the scene and arrested the thief.

Finally, Mr. Qiu expressed his gratitude to the other two female friends who were always taking pictures and eventually chased after him as well.

"It takes a lot of courage for girls."
