Title: My Research Team Breaks the Efficiency Record of Perovskite Solar Cells

According to Hainan University, the team of new energy optoelectronic materials and devices at the university has independently developed perovskite solar cells. After being certified by the National Photovoltaic Industry Metrology Testing Center of China, the steady-state photoelectric conversion efficiency reached 27.32%. This figure surpassed the 26.95% efficiency record announced by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory in February this year, as well as the 27.3% industry benchmark value recorded in the May edition of Martin Green's solar cell efficiency statistics, marking that Hainan University has entered the global leading ranks in the field of third-generation photovoltaic technology.

According to the introduction, this achievement is expected to drive an industrial upgrade and transformation in the photovoltaic sector. According to calculations, if the average efficiency of photovoltaics across the country increases by 1%, the cost per kilowatt-hour can be reduced by 5% to 7%, and the additional power generated in a year would be equivalent to the total electricity consumption of Hainan Province in 2024. If this technology is applied in the ongoing fishery and photovoltaic integration projects in Hainan, the same area can generate an additional 202.4 million kilowatt-hours annually, which can meet the annual electricity demand of 80,000 households.

Perovskite batteries have flexible and lightweight characteristics, making them applicable to diverse scenarios such as building-integrated photovoltaics and wearable devices. The team is currently accelerating the deep integration of perovskite solar cells with fields such as medical and agricultural industries. They are collaborating with vacuum glass technology experts to develop a perovskite button battery integrated device the size of a fingernail, which is expected to provide a "charge-free" solution for medical devices such as pacemakers; custom-designed flexible semi-transparent perovskite solar cells with red light spectrum can be used in fruit greenhouses, which can intelligently regulate temperature and light inside the greenhouse while also increasing the sugar content of the fruits.
