Chinese Shipyards Turn to New Energy and Advanced Vessels to Cope with Declining Orders

Foreign media: Chinese shipyards, due to reduced orders, plan to shift more capacity to new energy and advanced vessels to maintain profitability and cope with competition from South Korean counterparts.

In the first three quarters of 2025, the global order share of Chinese shipyards dropped from 75% last year to 65%, with a total global order volume of 10.5 million tons, a significant decrease of 61% compared to 26.9 million tons last year. Geopolitical tensions are the main cause of the decline in orders.

Chinese shipyards have played a role in stabilizing the global shipbuilding supply chain, and will focus on developing high-value-added vessel sectors in the future.
