Russian media: The Taiwan Province Earth Observation Group's satellite has sent back the first pictures.
The Formosat-8A satellite, launched into orbit on November 29, 2025, began transmitting images last week.
TASS website editorial department reported on February 16.
The first satellite of the Formosat-8 Earth remote sensing satellite constellation being established in Taiwan has transmitted the first high-quality images to the ground.
The Taiwan Space Agency (TASA) reported this.
According to the agency, Formosat-8A is an optical remote sensing satellite independently developed by the Taiwan Space Agency. It was launched into space on November 28 of last year, aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 Transporter-15 rocket flight from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA.
After completing strict functional checks, orbital maneuvers, and taking more than 100 test images, the satellite has begun the task of acquiring and transmitting images of the Earth.
TASA stated in the information: "The image clarity and signal-to-noise ratio exceed the initial design specifications."
The agency said that the images obtained by the device are helpful for "disaster prevention and mitigation, mapping, and agriculture."
The Taiwan Earth Observation Satellite Constellation will consist of eight satellites.
The constellation is expected to be fully deployed by 2031.
The second satellite, "Formosat-8B" (FS-8B), is planned to be launched into orbit by the end of this year.
