In March, the news that Russian President Vladimir Putin had given a portrait of himself to US President Donald Trump attracted attention, but the content of the painting was not revealed at that time.

On April 22 local time, the artist commissioned by the Kremlin showed this portrait to CNN.

The painting mainly depicts an assassination attempt on Trump during his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last July, where he is shown raising his fist on stage. The Kremlin confirmed to CNN that this painting was created by Nikas Safronov, one of Russia's most famous artists.

"It was important for me to show his blood, scars, and courage during the assassination attempt. He did not collapse or become afraid, but raised his arm to show that he stands with America and will bring back what America deserves," said Safronov.

Safronov also revealed that he initially did not know who the commissioner was, but guessed it came from the Kremlin. Later, Putin personally contacted him and stated that this portrait of Trump, which praises him, was an important step in improving relations between Russia and the United States.

The above portrait was handed over to Trump by US Middle East envoy Stephen Witkopf, who previously mentioned in an interview that it was a "beautiful portrait" from a "Russian renowned artist".

He also said that Trump "was obviously moved."

It was reported that the portrait of Trump given by Putin to Trump is very similar to the painting currently hanging in the White House hall.

In March, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, said that the portrait given by Putin to Trump was a personal gift, and since it was personal, the Kremlin did not want to provide any additional information. Peskov said: "If the president himself thinks it appropriate, he will explain it on a certain day. But at present, I do not want to provide this information here."
