Politico in the United States believes that Ukraine's attempt to court Trump with rare earth resources has backfired.

The mineral chip has turned into a political disaster: extraction requires billions of dollars and several decades.

Most of the mineral exploration in Ukraine was carried out in the 1960s, which no longer meets modern standards and requires huge investment to restart.

The original plan of the Ukrainian government was to use the mineral resource agreement as an accompanying measure for the peace agreement (including the commitment to join NATO), but now only the mineral clause remains, becoming a survival problem for Ukraine.

The Kiev think tank warned: "The current transaction plan severely weakens the strategic balance and limits Ukraine's regulatory and tax autonomy."

The Ukrainian authorities are avoiding publicly criticizing the agreement and are trying to quietly adjust the terms to avoid offending Trump.
