According to Reuters, on August 6 local time, the U.S. Department of Justice stated that a serving U.S. military soldier was arrested for allegedly attempting to provide intelligence about the U.S. M1A2 "Abrams" main battle tank to Russia.
According to court documents, the arrested individual is 22-year-old Taylor Adam Lee, a serving U.S. military personnel stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas. Due to attempting to send classified defense information and technical data to Russia, he will face two federal-level charges. Prosecutors accuse Lee of using his top-secret security clearance to attempt to provide information about the operational methods and weaknesses of the U.S. M1A2 main battle tank to Russia in exchange for Russian citizenship.
The report also states that last month, Lee provided a memory card to someone he believed to be a Russian intelligence officer, which contained documents related to the tank and other U.S. military operations. Prosecutors said some of these documents contained technical data that Lee had no authority to release to the public, while others were marked as "Controlled Unclassified Information."

"Today's arrest is a warning to anyone considering betraying the United States - especially those who have sworn to protect our homeland," said Roman Rozhavsky, assistant director of the FBI's counterintelligence division, in a statement. "The FBI and our partners will do everything possible to protect the American people and safeguard classified information."
Brigadier General Sean Stinchon, commander of the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Command, said regarding the incident: "Soldiers who violate their oaths and become internal threats will be caught and prosecuted. We will continue to protect Army personnel and maintain the security of equipment."
Lee has not yet responded to the charges.
