Reuters reported that the ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia has exceeded 72 hours on December 30. Thailand stated that it has postponed the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers due to the violation of the agreement.

According to the agreement signed by the defense ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, Thailand had previously stated that it would release the 18 Cambodian soldiers after the ceasefire lasted for 72 hours.

On the 30th, Niranat Dechaphan, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, said that the Thai military detected multiple drones from Cambodia in the late evening of the 28th, which it considered a violation of the agreement, and therefore re-evaluated the timing of the transfer of the soldiers.

He added that the date and time for the release of these soldiers will depend on security considerations, and the transfer may happen soon.

The Cambodian authorities strongly denied Thailand's accusation regarding the drones. Cambodia issued an order on the evening of the 29th to prohibit the use of drones throughout the country.

When asked about the delay in the release of the soldiers, Cambodia's government spokesperson Ban Povna said: "There is currently no response, and the situation is being monitored."

Earlier on December 30, Thai Foreign Minister Sisavath said that the ceasefire agreement is very fragile and both sides need to ensure its continued effectiveness, avoid incitement or any actions that could weaken the ceasefire, and gradually restore bilateral relations.
