Canada DHL Union Announces Strike!

Canadian express company DHL Express was unable to reach an agreement with the union today (August 8th), and the union announced a strike, affecting national express services.

The union Unifor, which represents 2,100 truck drivers, couriers, and warehouse workers, stated that DHL plans to change the driver compensation system and intends to hire replacement workers before the temporary worker ban takes effect on June 20th.

The union emphasized that the focus of the negotiations remains wages, working conditions, as well as monitoring and automation in the workplace.

The strike has severely impacted express delivery services. Currently, Canada Post is also at an impasse in negotiations with 55,000 workers. The union has already implemented an overtime ban last month, reducing parcel delivery services.

In addition, the strike may affect the F1 Canadian Grand Prix to be held in Montreal next week, as DHL will be responsible for transporting race cars to the venue.
