South Korean media: India is unlikely to replace China in iPhone production!

On May 12, South Korean media News Fim published an article stating that Apple has set a goal of producing all iPhones for the US market in India by 2026 in order to mitigate the impact of the reciprocal tariffs imposed by former US President Donald Trump. However, it is observed that the realization of this plan is highly unlikely.

Bloomberg reported that the transfer of production will be a gradual process, and even by 2027, it is unlikely that all iPhones sold in the United States will be produced in India.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman pointed out, "In terms of iPhone quality, the iPhones manufactured in India have already reached a level similar to those made in China. However, the 20th anniversary edition models are very complex. The 20th anniversary edition models include the first foldable iPhone and entirely new glass material Pro models. Therefore, it remains unclear whether Apple can produce these models outside of China."

He stated, "It may happen one day, but certainly not before 2027." He also added that Apple has never launched major new products outside of China.

In recent years, Apple has been striving to expand its manufacturing capabilities in India. Especially since the second term of Trump's presidency.

The Financial Times reported that Apple has planned to manufacture all iPhones for the US market in India by 2026.

According to sources, this decision was made based on the judgment that iPhones produced in Chinese factories could not escape the tariff offensive from the Trump administration. The target of purchasing over 60 million iPhones annually from India starting next year has exceeded industry expectations.
