Trump: Starting August 1, the US will impose a 25% import tariff on all goods originating from Japan and South Korea

US President Trump stated that the US will impose a uniform 25% tariff on all goods originating from Japan and South Korea entering the US market.

Trump posted a letter to the leaders of Japan and South Korea on TRUTH Social, stating in the letter: "We must end the trade deficit caused by tariffs and non-tariff barriers from these countries. Therefore, we will impose a 25% tariff on all imported goods."

Trump said that this tariff measure does not apply to companies that directly produce goods within the United States. If Tokyo or Seoul take retaliatory measures, the US reserves the right to further increase tariffs.

Trump said that the ongoing trade imbalance with Japan and South Korea poses a threat to the US economy and national security.
