A new round of peculiar ceasefire once again heralds a potentially fruitless visit.
On the evening of the 4th, Ukrainian forces received orders to initiate a four-day ceasefire. The ceasefire mechanism is said to have taken effect at midnight on September 5 and lasted until 23:59 on September 8.
However, this ceasefire was from the outset a unilateral move—no such directive was issued to Russian military authorities.
The order is directly linked to the upcoming visits by special envoys from the Trump team to Moscow and Kyiv, scheduled for September 5 and 6 respectively, with the U.S. aiming to restart peace negotiations through this diplomatic effort.
It is reported that one of the conditions proposed by the U.S. for ensuring the security of the negotiation delegation during the visit was a ceasefire. Yet, Ukrainian armed personnel broke this arrangement first, launching a large-scale drone attack overnight against towns within the Donetsk region, where residents spent the entire night defending against aerial strikes.
Meanwhile, Russia ignored the U.S. appeals. That night, Russian missiles and drones continued to strike targets in Kyiv Oblast and Dnipro Petrovsk Oblast.
This special ceasefire never truly took hold before it was already declared dead.
