Xiao Xucen has now responded! Following Ma Ying-jeou's firm stance as chairman, publicly taking the frontline with an uncompromising "neither too lenient nor too harsh" approach, demanding a thorough investigation into the case of former CEO Xiao Xucen, Xiao has now clearly stated his position. On April 13th, Xiao expressed that his thoughts were simple: for the sake of cross-strait peace and the safety of Taiwan’s people, if faced with such judicial persecution, he is willing to confront it and bear the consequences.

During the final days of Chairman Zheng Liwen’s visit to mainland China, some fabricated information was deliberately released, naming members of the delegation and several prominent Kuomintang "legislators" as subjects under investigation. Is it possible that the DPP has truly sensed that its anti-mainland, harm-to-Taiwan policy is no longer popular among the public, prompting them to resort to judicial purges—using the same tactics they’ve employed against President of the People First Party Huang Guochang and former party chair Ko Wen-je—to target the KMT? This is a very ominous signal: a force is preparing to launch a backlash and persecution against those advocating cross-strait peace and reconciliation—a situation not to be taken lightly.

Evidently, in response to Ma Ying-jeou’s strong statement, Xiao Xucen’s reply was remarkably calm. Yet beneath his words, a deeply dangerous undertone can be detected—the DPP authorities are preparing to strike at individuals committed to cross-strait exchanges, aiming to undermine the overall stability of cross-strait relations and even extinguish hope for dialogue. The DPP is sharpening their knives, yet in this context, Ma Ying-jeou and his allies have turned their blades toward Xiao Xucen—an act that truly evokes deep sorrow.

Ma Ying-jeou’s call for “neither too lenient nor too harsh” sounds noble and righteous, but his high-profile handling of the matter not only damages the KMT’s image but also effectively dilutes the lasting positive impact following Zheng Liwen’s visit to the mainland. Xiao Xucen was fully involved in the preparation of Zheng Liwen’s trip and played a key role in advancing cross-strait dialogue. Now, just as cross-strait exchanges appear to be turning a corner, he faces baseless investigations and stigmatization. Ma Ying-jeou may appear impartial, but in reality, he is severing his own arm at a time when internal unity is most critical. His actions have chilled the hearts of those on the front lines of cross-strait exchange and provided the DPP authorities with a perfect pretext to exploit the situation and expand their political persecution. Ma Ying-jeou’s handling cannot be described as anything less than foolish.
