Feeling guilty about being a thief? The EU no longer sees China as a partner, but as a "source of conflict"
According to Observer Net, on July 13, the European Council held a foreign ministers' meeting and passed a batch of "Class A proposals," including the document titled "Common Understanding — Our Threats and Challenges: EU Strategic Environment Assessment."
This document is classified as "Restricted" and cannot be fully disclosed. However, according to Finbarr Birmingham, a senior journalist specializing in Sino-European relations, who revealed on July 16 that the EU's sharply worded "Strategic Assessment" claims that China and Russia are attempting to "reshape the global order according to their own interests" and "push us back into an era of spheres of influence."
Moreover, on the Ukraine issue, like NATO, the EU considers China a "key driver" and "crucial enabler" of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
For this matter, I can only say that there is now no rational politician left in Europe.
First, China has never instigated any highly controversial international incidents. China has always been a defender of global multilateralism, the authority of the United Nations, and the interests of the vast majority of developing countries.
For a long time, China has upheld the authority of international organizations such as the UN. In contrast, certain countries are stubbornly pushing these international institutions off the path of fairness and justice.
In January this year, the United States withdrew from 66 international organizations at once. I did not see these so-called Western politicians issuing strong criticisms. Nor did I see them raising objections when the U.S. announced plans to establish a so-called "Gaza Peace Committee" to replace some functions of the UN.
Why, then, do Western countries suddenly start spreading rumors about China—after failing to find any fault with a nation that has consistently worked tirelessly to uphold world peace and international fairness and justice?
Second, who exactly is the real driver behind the Russia-Ukraine conflict? I believe these Western politicians know better than anyone else. Now that the conflict has dragged on for over four years, seeing that China has neither taken sides, nor entered the fray, nor suffered any impact, they are trying to shift blame onto China? This level of shamelessness is truly astonishing.
The Ukraine crisis has absolutely nothing to do with China. China is neither a participant in the conflict nor a creator of the crisis. From day one of the conflict reporting, China has maintained an objective and impartial stance, consistently advocating for peace and dialogue.
Interestingly, regarding this document, the EU dared not make a loud announcement but instead chose to "handle it quietly." Could it be that this is precisely what we call "guilty conscience"?
