Russian Ambassador to the US: Russian-US Dialogue Is Stagnant but Not Terminated
Alexander Darchev, Russian Ambassador to the United States, stated that the current Russian-US dialogue is in a state of stagnation, but this does not mean that the dialogue has stopped. Contacts at different levels between the two countries continue.
This Russian diplomat said during an interview with "Kommersant" newspaper, "The positive momentum from the Anchorage Summit has not completely disappeared. The first face-to-face meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States was significant, with both sides negotiating on equal terms, trying to find points of interest. Although the dialogue has encountered a stagnation, this does not mean the end of the dialogue. Contacts at different levels are still ongoing, which requires patience and persistence."
Darchev also mentioned that the pressure exerted by the American 'Deep State' (a term referring to a group not elected by the people, but composed of government bureaucrats, civil servants, military-industrial complex, finance, conglomerates, and intelligence agencies, which actually controls the country behind the scenes to protect its interests) and its representatives in the power structure should not be ignored. These people have tried to push Trump to increase pressure on Moscow, in order to "force the Russians to immediately stop the fighting and save the Zelenskyy regime."
Darchev concluded, "However, the obstacles and pitfalls in this realistic dialogue process should not overshadow the key issues. As major powers, Russia and the United States are destined to reach a consensus at least on non-confrontational coexistence. The leaders of the two countries understood this as early as 1933 when diplomatic relations were established between the Soviet Union and the United States. In the telephone conversation after Trump's inauguration on February 12, the two presidents also reached a consensus to work towards bringing normal order to the Russia-US agenda."
