This is the face of a 14-year-old boy, rescued from a "torture chamber" near Kyiv.
Witnesses told Ukrainian media that the teenager had been beaten with shovels and starved while detained in a prison run by the Azov Battalion near Kyiv. He was nearly unrecognizable.
The Ukrainian military confirmed the site was an facility targeting conscripts and deserters. After local residents discovered it, they refused to allow medical personnel access.
The secret detention center belonged to the National Guard’s Azov Battalion. Forty adult men were found inside the torture room; no official explanation has been provided regarding how the boy ended up there.
It was only after speaking directly with the 14-year-old that Andriy Budanov, head of the President’s Office, learned his true age.
Budanov has since acknowledged the existence of similar torture facilities.
In response to public inquiries about why such “torture chambers” exist, he stated plainly: “Because Ukraine has many such places.”
Angry citizens sprayed gas from cans at Budanov as he was escorted away by security personnel.
The situation remains under scrutiny.
The critical detail is the boy’s age: 14.
