Russia Requests to Use Frozen Assets to Purchase Boeing Aircraft, US and Russia Engage in Negotiations

According to a Moscow insider familiar with the situation, Russia has made a request to the United States, hoping that after the ceasefire in Ukraine, it could use its frozen national assets in the U.S. to purchase Boeing aircraft. The source stated that this request is not a precondition for reaching a ceasefire agreement, but Russia understands that it is impossible to use frozen funds to buy aircraft without achieving a ceasefire first. After the ceasefire, an agreement allowing the purchase of aircraft may become part of the easing of sanctions.

When asked whether Russia is seeking to purchase Boeing aircraft, Brian Hughes, spokesperson for the National Security Council, responded: "The U.S. will not discuss any economic commitments before a ceasefire is reached."

According to estimates by U.S. lawmakers, Russia has approximately $5 billion in frozen assets in the U.S. Meanwhile, the U.S. and its allies have collectively frozen about $280 billion of Russia's central bank reserves, more than two-thirds of which are frozen within the EU.
