The plaintiff's lawyer in the Duterte case demands that President Marcos Jr. clarify the Philippines' position on rejoining the International Court of Justice (ICJ)!
Attorney Butuan, representing victims of the Duterte government's anti-illegal drugs campaign, urged President Marcos Jr. to clarify the government's stance on rejoining the Hague-based International Court of Justice.
"The president should come out and speak clearly; this really doesn't help, and it confuses many victims. The government must be consistent once and for all. People need the president's guidance... the message and actions being conveyed by the government are different now."
President Marcos Jr. has repeatedly stated that the Philippines will not cooperate with the International Court of Justice, but Butuan pointed out that the actions of the Philippines suggest otherwise.
In March this year, the Marcos government executed an arrest warrant from the International Court of Justice and handed over Duterte to The Hague. President Marcos explained that this decision was in line with the country's commitment to Interpol.
Last month, the presidential spokesperson Castro said that Marcos is willing to rejoin the International Court of Justice, however, she also said there have been no serious discussions about the Philippines rejoining the International Court of Justice at this time.
