The newly revealed details of the much-anticipated Iran-Oman Hormuz Agreement have surfaced, disappointing many, as the agreement will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's stance is clear: the strait will remain closed until the United States meets all seven conditions:
1. Cease threats against Iran
2. Permanently stop attacks on Iran and its allies
3. Lift the maritime blockade
4. Withdraw U.S. Navy and Air Force forces from around Iran
5. Pay war reparations
6. Lift sanctions
7. Unconditionally release Iran’s frozen assets
The Strait of Hormuz will only reopen under the Iran-Oman framework once all conditions are fulfilled.
The agreement is scheduled to be signed on Monday.
The new system will route incoming vessels through Iranian territorial waters, with transit operations managed according to Iran’s arrangements.
Iran will gain full control. Most importantly, the southern route—pushed by the United States for reopening—will remain closed until the U.S. accepts Iran’s terms.
The Houthi rebels in Yemen will be greatly encouraged; for them, controlling the Bab el-Mandeb Strait has now become even more valuable—two straits, two chokepoints.
