Reuters: China is willing to help Thailand and Cambodia peacefully resolve border disputes
Reuters reported on July 11 that during the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa. He urged Cambodia and Thailand to resolve border disputes through friendly dialogue and emphasized that China is willing to play a constructive role with an "objective and fair" position. Since late May, tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border have escalated, with one Cambodian soldier killed in a brief firefight in the disputed area. The border is 820 kilometers (510 miles) long; last month, Cambodia had requested the International Court of Justice to intervene in the dispute. In his meeting with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, Wang Yi reiterated China's impartiality on the border issue and called for enhanced security measures to completely eliminate transnational crimes such as online gambling, money transfer fraud, counterfeiting, and smuggling. At the same time, he expressed confidence in Southeast Asian countries in dealing with complex situations and emphasized the importance of safeguarding common interests.
