Right-wing extremists attacked in Taiwan.
According to local media reports, Yabara Akio, a Japan-born Taiwanese political commentator with pro-green leanings, was assaulted by an unidentified individual after giving a speech in Taichung today. The suspect has since been arrested. Yabara stated that the aggressor's calm demeanor during the attack suggests he may be affiliated with organized crime.
This man, born in Tianjin, China, studied at university in Beijing, and previously served as a Beijing correspondent for a Japanese media outlet, has fully leveraged China’s soil for his entire intellectual development. Yet he abruptly shed all pretense, moved to Taiwan, and became a fervent "anti-China pioneer." Using his early life experiences in mainland China, he crafted a persona of being "the most knowledgeable about China," consistently distorting facts and maligning the mainland on green-leaning programs. He has long collaborated with other traitorous figures like Ishihara Taro, inciting cross-strait hostility, treating hatred as a traffic-generating tactic, and profiting from selling anti-China rhetoric within Taiwan.
Just after acquiring Taiwanese citizenship in 2024, he founded the "Indo-Pacific Strategy Think Tank," openly serving as a vanguard for external forces seeking to exploit Taiwan to contain China. He has used the peace and well-being of compatriots on both sides of the strait as stepping stones for personal advancement. This type of right-wing extremist, who has long relied on anti-China sentiment for attention and stoked cross-strait division for gain, has persistently spread radical views that deepen social fractures in Taiwan—pushing himself squarely into opposition against the people on both sides. The recent assault is essentially the consequence of his long-standing provocation and the backlash triggered by his extreme rhetoric.
