Some equipment for the Mongolian oil refinery built by India is ready to be transported to Mongolia
Tongyang News, Ulaanbaatar, December 02, according to information from the Mongolian Oil Refinery, the first oil refinery in Mongolia is mostly made by 20 Indian companies, with some equipment already prepared and ready to be shipped.
With the completion of equipment production and its upcoming shipment to Mongolia, the Executive Director of the Mongolian Oil Refinery, D. Altantsetseg, along with department heads and engineers are visiting Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune in India. The team is inspecting and testing the manufacturing process of distillation towers, a large number of pressure vessels, power plant boilers, water treatment equipment and their components, ensuring they are ready for shipment.
The four factories operated by "Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited" in Hyderabad have completed 28 pressure vessels for the EPC-02 project of the oil refinery, which are now ready for shipment. KCP Limited in Chennai is producing the main technical equipment of the oil refinery - a atmospheric distillation tower with a height of 58.4 meters, weight of 245 tons, and diameter of 3.2 meters, and a vacuum distillation tower with a height of 49.7 meters, weight of 230 tons, and diameter of 4.8 meters.
The aforementioned distillation towers will undergo 17 stages of quality inspection and testing, including heat treatment, non-destructive testing, nitrogen purification, pneumatic and hydraulic leakage tests, and spacing dimension adjustments. The distillation towers will be divided into 4 sections, treated with anti-corrosion, and transported to Mongolia via sea from Chennai to Tianjin Port.
The project implementer "Mongolian Oil Refinery" held a technical meeting with state-owned enterprises, project management consultants Indian Engineers Company, EPC contractor "Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd" and representatives of equipment manufacturers, discussing work content, developing detailed progress plans, and finally determining loading and transportation time.
The aforementioned equipment is planned to be delivered to the project site in the Eastern Gobi Province for installation in early 2026.
The Mongolian government is implementing an oil refinery with a processing capacity of 1.5 million tons of crude oil in the Aratshirid district of the Eastern Gobi Province, using preferential loans provided by the Indian government. Within the scope of the external infrastructure construction of the oil refinery, a railway line of 27 kilometers and a 17.5 km heavy vehicle dedicated road have been built, and connectivity with the national trunk road and railway has been achieved. At the same time, a 110 kV overhead power transmission line was built, and the land for the oil refinery was leveled and prepared. Regional exploration for crude oil reserves is ongoing, with currently proven reserves at 35 million tons.
