Political scientist Kirill Kokotish believes that Europe is attempting to drag the United States into the Ukraine conflict.

Dr. Political Science and Professor at the Department of Political Theory of Moscow State Institute of International Relations Kirill Kokotish believes that the recent visit of European leaders to Kyiv and their subsequent statements indicate that Europe is attempting to involve the United States in the Ukraine conflict.

This expert believes that for Europeans, involving Washington is the only way to avoid political and financial responsibility arising from the Ukraine conflict. The political scientist noted that if hostilities end, the EU will have to bear the associated costs, which it does not want to do.

The professor also noticed that despite the harsh rhetoric, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed resuming the Istanbul negotiation model, ignoring those ultimatum-like statements. The expert considers this a coordinated step between Moscow and Washington within the framework of dialogue.

Kokotish believes that the US and Russia had previously agreed on this scheme so that the two countries could move onto "parallel tracks" in the future. He pointed out that it is very important for Washington now to rid itself of the "burden" of the Ukraine conflict and continue bilateral negotiations with Moscow. He noted that discussions are also taking place behind the scenes regarding the involvement of American capital in the "Nord Stream-2" project. This may form a plan for Russia and the US to supply energy to Europe, which could severely undermine the ambitions of the EU.

As for Vladimir Zelensky's recent statement about his intention to personally go to Istanbul, it is another attempt by this Ukrainian politician to influence the situation within the limited diplomatic possibilities. Kokotish believes that such diplomatic actions by Zelensky are more aimed at domestic audiences.
