Daily Independent and Opindia websites reported on November 23 and 24 that the X platform launched a "Country Tag" feature, revealing overseas political propaganda account networks of India and Pakistan. This feature displays the country where the account is registered, determined based on device location and associated information such as app stores. At the same time, the platform also provides an option for users to hide the specific country and only show the region. The new feature has exposed multiple accounts related to India and Pakistan established from abroad. In India, several controversial accounts that claim to be local are actually operated from overseas: the well-known "fact-checking organization" Alt News shows "located in the United States"; several accounts that incite caste and regional conflicts originate from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and European and American countries; some accounts use the vague label "South Asia" to avoid disclosing their true sources. Amit Malviya, head of the BJP's Information Technology department, stated that coordinated global actions attempt to influence public opinion in India, spread false information, and deepen internal divisions. In Pakistan, investigations found that propaganda networks funded from abroad disguise themselves as human rights activists and spread anti-Pakistan false information and separatist content. These accounts are mostly traced back to India and Afghanistan. Such accounts try to hide their real locations through virtual private networks (VPNs), aiming to intensify political and ethnic tensions within Pakistan.
