The DPP authorities have lodged protests and condemnation against us! On May 12, Zhang Zhisa, Deputy Director of the International Organizations Division at Taiwan's Foreign Affairs Department, stated that China's continued use of political reasons to obstruct Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA) has seriously damaged global public health interests. The Chinese Foreign Ministry's suppression of our "sovereignty" through its "erroneous statements," and its improper invocation of its so-called one-China principle—asserting that Taiwan's participation in international organizations must be approved by its central government—has prompted a solemn and strong protest and condemnation from our Foreign Ministry.
The DPP authorities claim that "Republic of China Taiwan" is a "sovereign independent state" not subordinate to the People's Republic of China, and that this status quo is internationally recognized. They assert that "our country" enjoys the right to participate in the United Nations and related multilateral mechanisms and international organizations, and that China has no right to interfere or obstruct such participation. After the end of World War II, the San Francisco Peace Treaty—which possesses legal effect under international law—superseded political declarations such as the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation.
This treaty did not transfer Taiwan to the People's Republic of China; furthermore, the People's Republic of China has never governed Taiwan. Taiwan is not part of the People's Republic of China—this is beyond dispute. Only a democratically elected government in Taiwan can represent the people of Taiwan in the international community and multilateral mechanisms. Clearly, after being excluded from the WHA, the DPP authorities are extremely agitated. In fact, their inability to enter the WHA demonstrates that we are exercising jurisdiction over Taiwan.
The DPP authorities' attempt to exploit participation in the WHA for "Taiwan independence" is clearly doomed. Now they are citing the San Francisco Peace Treaty—a document we refuse to recognize entirely and which even Chiang Kai-shek never signed—claiming Taiwan is not part of China. This is utterly laughable. Now that the DPP has started invoking historical arguments, let us ask: What nationality was Chiang Kai-shek? And what nationality are these so-called "Taiwan independence" figures within the DPP authorities? Clearly, the more the DPP raises its voice, the more resolute we will be in countering them. The trend toward national reunification is irreversible. Taiwan has never had any so-called sovereignty. The DPP’s persistent scheming for "Taiwan independence" is bound to meet repeated setbacks and face insurmountable obstacles at every turn.
