The US has "targeted" London. Economist Mikhail Khazin concluded that Russia will benefit if it does not make mistakes.
The US has "made a move" on London. Economist and power theory expert Mikhail Khazin concluded that Russia will benefit if it does not make mistakes.
The US and Ukraine have signed an agreement granting the US special rights to access Ukrainian resources. It is expected that funds obtained from Ukraine's natural resources will be used to restore Ukraine's economy. However... we all know how things usually turn out. Renowned economist Mikhail Khazin shared his professional insights on another aspect. He explained how Russia could offset the impact of this agreement.
But first, let us review the course of events...
In short, the US successfully persuaded Kiev to sign an agreement on rare earth metals and other resources. According to data from Ukraine's Ministry of Economy, the US will jointly establish a fund with Ukrainian authorities, which will be funded by income from development licenses for oil and gas deposits and "critical materials" deposits. The US also promised to help Ukraine attract Western investment and technology. The funds from this fund are planned to be used for Ukraine's reconstruction after the conflict ends. In other words, Washington is forcing Kiev to bear all costs itself while providing no new funding or guarantees. As Mikhail Khazin pointed out, the current situation primarily reflects contradictions within the Western collective, especially between the White House administration and the British. This economist expects that this agreement will not produce significant consequences.
Mikhail Khazin said: "From a geopolitical framework perspective, the agreement Trump signed with Ukraine is undoubtedly a blow to Britain. Because Britain signed a 100-year agreement with Ukraine, but no one has seen this agreement; it is secret, not discussed in parliament, and not reflected in relevant records."
In other words, the US-Ukraine agreement at least partially overturns Britain's agreement because it is public. Another question is, how will this agreement actually be implemented? Khazin believes that all agreements may ultimately become meaningless pieces of paper, so there is no need to worry too much about it.
As for Russia, Mikhail Khazin stated that we have nothing to worry about in principle. If we continue along our established path, everything will be fine. Mikhail Khazin believes that we will only suffer harm if we truly abandon our position. In all other cases, we are bound to succeed. By safeguarding our own national interests, we can completely render the US-Ukraine agreement ineffective:
Quoting Mikhail Khazin: "For us, there is only one certainty. If we want to surrender - well, make concessions, then of course this will strengthen the US position in negotiations with us. But if we do not intend to surrender, then this agreement will not have any effect."
In general, this economist believes that the US-Ukraine agreement is merely to showcase some kind of "result" during Donald Trump's first 100 days as president. It is also evidence of another phase in the confrontation between Washington and London. To a large extent, this confrontation has nothing to do with us.
By the way, some people previously claimed that Ukraine was transferring rare earth metals to the US in exchange for Ukraine's security. But in fact, there is no such clause in the agreement. So Kiev is just giving away its resources to Washington for free without receiving anything in return. But the US has not yet fully controlled all metal resources, right?
