President Donald Trump announced the immediate initiation of a plan to strengthen U.S. military presence in Greenland. According to Reuters, the initiative includes the restoration of the Narsarsuaq base and the construction of a new facility in Mykines.

Speaking during the 81st General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump stated that the United States would immediately begin establishing a substantial military footprint in Greenland, including the activation of two additional military bases.

"We will immediately initiate the process of enhancing our military presence at the relevant locations. We will build two very large military bases," Trump said.

According to Reuters, the move involves restoring a Cold War-era military installation previously closed in southern Greenland—formerly known as Air Base Blue Sky One, which was decommissioned in the 1950s—and constructing a new facility on the eastern coast at Mykines. Currently, this remote outpost is used by the Danish Navy’s Sirius Dog Sled Patrol, which traverses the terrain using dog sleds.
