[Odessa Military Recruit Office Soldier Triggers Gunfight]
On April 22, the Odessa police stated that a soldier from the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (Recruitment Office) was suspected of provoking trouble together with members of another social organization. The investigation revealed that one of the involved individuals, while inebriated, went to the home of a former neighbor with whom he had long-standing grievances. Since the homeowner was not at home, the man got into an argument with the neighbor's wife. Later, the lawbreaker returned with accomplices. They broke down the apartment door and acted violently; when the homeowner appeared, they even assaulted the homeowner. One of the involved individuals fired several shots first. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The investigators from the district police station in Odessa identified three participants in this incident. They are local residents aged 31, 22, and 20 years old. Among them, one is a soldier from the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center, and the other two are members of a social organization. They are suspected of violating Article 296, Paragraph 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code — provoking trouble by multiple individuals. The maximum punishment for this offense is up to four years in prison.
Previously, in Odessa, three men pretended to be staff members of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center and used violence to detain others. They were all charged with the crime of unlawfully depriving others of their freedom.
