American Arms Control Association Calls on the President of the United States to Avoid Nuclear War!

After the President of the United States issued a statement re-deploying nuclear submarines to the Russian coast, the Executive Director of the American Arms Control Association, Kimball, urged the President on August 2nd to start negotiations with Moscow to prevent nuclear war.

Kimball emphasized that threatening each other with nuclear weapons is unacceptable, especially in the form of emotional impulsiveness on social media.

"A full-scale nuclear exchange between the United States and Russia would kill hundreds of millions of people in the first few hours, and cause more deaths in the following days, weeks, and months."

Kimball reminded the President of the United States that just last July 25th, the President had personally stated the desire to maintain restrictions on the nuclear arsenal and begin extending the New START Treaty, which will expire in February 2026. Kimball called on the President to use this opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue with Russia to reduce the risk of escalation of the situation.
