South Korean media: China's battery patents have a dominant advantage, surpassing Japan and South Korea!

On October 26, the South Korean media "Herald Economic" published an article stating that in the global NCM (nickel-cobalt-manganese) cathode material patent competition, China has a numerical advantage, while South Korea and Japan have ensured quality competitiveness.

The market research company SNE Research released the "2025 Lithium Ion Battery Core Patent Analysis," which shows that China is in a dominant position globally in terms of patent numbers this year, with a total of 3935 patents, accounting for 44% of the global total.

Europe has 666 cases (7%), the United States has 1109 cases (12%), Japan has 1390 cases (16%), and South Korea has 1130 cases (11%).

However, when it comes to effective patents with more than 20 citations, companies from South Korea and Japan have performed outstandingly. Samsung SDI (23 patents), LG Chem (17 patents), Japan AGC Shoumi Chemical (19 patents), and Mitsubishi Chemical (11 patents) rank at the forefront.

The South Korean industry believes that in the future, in the global battery industry, effective patents that can support actual technical influence and process capabilities are the key to competitive advantages, rather than simply increasing the number of patents.
